The
kind of questions I've been asked.
The kind of questions you should all be asking yourselves! For shame!
For an artist personal Bio, just scroll down all the way.
Who
are you?
I'm Batman! ... no, actually I'm The DarkCloak. also known as Sal
Vador N.

as well as traditional mediums for creating creating both 2-d,
and 3-d images.

storyboarding, sketching, concept development, paintings, website

What
is this site?
This site is madness... pure, blissful,
creative, madness.
What
do you do?
I'm a freelance artist, or Artistic Merc
& Ronin for hire as I like to say.
Where
are you from?
I was born and raised in Chicago, however nowadays I lurk around
the Twin Cities.
How
did you get into art?
I was possessed by the spirit of an artistic demon who had a burning
desire to express himself, and let me be expressed in the world
around the age of 4. Mostly it has always been driven by my wanting
to express and spill out the imagery and scenes that run rampant
in my mind.
What
kind of art do you do? The
works I create can range from cartoonish, to comic book art, to
sculpture, & painting. The variety of art I create includes
pin up art, sci-fi, fantasy, the dark & gritty, horror, swords
& scorcery, and so much more.
What
tools do you use?
Pretty much anything I can get my hands on, whether it's by traditional
means or digital means. That is to say, I create 2-d art as well
as 3-d art, using a wide range or progams and softwares.
my
digital tools: I tend to use Photoshop CS2 & Painter
8 quite regularly for my digital imagery. However, regularly mix
my own photography or my 3D work & renderings to create my final
images. As for my tools for digital art, I use a Wacom Intuos 2
12 x 18 tablet, our Canon a85, my scanner (which I call Dennis -
as in the MENACE) and my recently acquired Toshiba R15 tablet PC
(which is VERY useful for creating
my work 'on the go'.
my
traditional tools: For
my traditional work I use just about anything I can get my hands
on. Paints, acryllics, pencils, watercolours, and a good ol' plain
ball point ink pen, which is still by far one of my favourite tools
to use for drawing. Other than drawing and painting, I also put
my hands to sculpture and will be displaying and creating more of
that work in the future to come.
What
else do you create besides art? I'm
also a musician! I play keyboards & guitar, and I use sequencers
and recording software to create my tracks. You can go check them
out here!
What
would you do if you weren't doing art?
Probably making monkey puppet shows for cash on the subway or something.
What
do you do for fun? Answer questions like
these?
Well, I am naughty, I am nice, I add to life mischief, mayhem fun,
and spice! Ok ok. Movies, music, drawing, giving people a hard time,
and making people think or laugh, and most of all, spending time
with my other half doing pretty much all of the above.
What
kind of music do you listen to? Do you listen to it while you're
drawing? Mostly
when I draw I like to listen to the movie scores like the works
of Danny Elfman, James Horner, Alan Sylvestri, John Williams, Hans
Zimmer, Basil Poledouris, Wojcieck Kilar, just to name a few movie
score composers. I also have a deep appreciation for game music/
scores and remixes such as the kind you can find on OCremix. As
far as other music goes, the stuff I enjoy most would be like The
Prodigy, Beastie Boys, Metallica, Amon Tobin, DJ Shadow, classic
rock and more. (hint: see the Bio Page) Other than that, I guess
you can take a look at my playlist once I post it here.
Got
any words to live by?
I've got lots of words to live by. As a matter of fact... here's
a page just for my rants and quotes.
How
often is this site updated?
Ideally it would be updated weekly, monthly even. But I am open
to suggestions.
What's
your favourite kind of cheese?
I like swiss cheese.
If
someone you like, doesn't like monkeys, do you like monkeys?
Of course I do! Unless they are pink rabid monkeys with sharp teeth.
Then no.
Two
monkeys walk into a bar, why?
Because they forgot their hats
Explain
the need for the existence of God in the universe, in under 20 words.
This is a timed exercise. Begin.
Because people like avoiding responsibility for what they are in
life, let alone what they do and do not do.
What
is sooooo neat about plaid skirts anyway?
They look hot with striped stockings.

ARTIST
BIO & SPECIMEN INFO
Name:
The DarkCloak aka Sal Vador
Born:
Nov 21,
XXXX AD.
Sign: Scorpio/
Sagittarius (yes, an astrological freak. A Cuspian.)
Quote: I am not flesh nor stone or
smoke, I am as I am... I am the DarkCloak.
Food : Just about anything my Mia cooks
(MMM... KILLER POTATOES)!!! But I love Bar-be-que's, mexican home
cooking, and I am pudding for BREAD PUDDING! GHraaaaargh... &
I love pizza, but not just any pizza... I can be quite picky when
it comes to pizza. Otherwise, I'm not terribly keen on fast foods...
Movies: Predator
would be my all time favorite. I don't think anything has toppled
that from it's throne. Other than that, The Matrix, the original
Star Wars trilogy. LotR trilogy (which I think has toppled Star
Wars... ooh controversial!). I absolutely loved The Iron Giant.
The El Mariachi trilogy I can't seem to tire of.
I really enjoyed V: for Vendetta and am intent on picking
it up on DVD when it comes out. I also like King Kong, despite some
of it's ridiculous scenes. Can't go wrong with some good ol' spaghetti
westerns. Terminators, Hellboys, Hulks, X-mens, Spidermen, Robocops,
Aliens, and movie monster goodness is always fun. Ah yes, as for
my dislikes, I can't stand musicals. Dunno why, but the really odd
thing is that The Nightmare Before Christmas is a movie I never
tire of (ITS NOT A MUSICAL!!! RARR!!!). I could go on and on about
movies, but I will say this much, Tim Burton, Sam Raimi,
and all them other fun folks. And in a nut shell, I like horror
movies, action movies, suspense movies, some comedy, drama, ah hell
I don't know where to stop. Just ask me sometime. This is turning
into a 20 page I like movies essay.
Music: (see
my playlist) My favorite performers (I say performers because
they aren't all 'bands') would be The Prodigy, BeastieBoys,
Perez Prado, Link Wray, Dick Dale, and Rob Zombie/ White Zombie,
and also for scores n such Danny Elfman, John Williams, Ennio
Morricone, and the awesome Alan Sylvestri to name a few.
I like too many to put down here... *looks at long essay about movies
above* Yeah, if I keep this up you'll be reading this all night!
So I'll make this short n sweet. I like movie scores, game scores,
electronic music ( dance, industrial, etc. all fall in here for
me), ambient, classical, old rock, and yes... even old 30's 40's
music, especially their kick ass mambo.
Books: I really dig collections of
the good comics. Like the Batman: The Dark Knight Returns on paperback,
and DK2. Also the Batman: Long Halloween, and DarkVictory. So basically,
I'm a sucker for Batman novels and such. Believe it or not I don't
read comics much, seems I am always lost when I pick one up, yet
even more reason I prefer the collected series. As for books books,
lately I have at last been getting into the Harry Potter books,
well am reading the first one, and plan to have read the first 3
before the new movie comes out. My most memorable reads would have
to be Batman: Knightfall in novel format, Aliens Vs. Predator, and
a wonderful twisted little book called Tainted Treats (MUST
READ!!!). Oh look, another essay. We move on to the next thing now.
So about me...
Hmmm...
Well I've been doodling for as long as I can remember. My earliest
memory of being creative involves me 'stealing' some liquid paper
from my dad, and painting a little red fire truck in red and white
camouflage. Good times. Other than that, I was the type that would
not keep his mouth shut, or would spend lots of time doodling during
class. Funny thing about that is I still payed attention, and when
the teachers would ask me what was the last things they said and
what we were talking about, then I would get in even more trouble
for knowing the answer to that. Go figure.
In High School
I majored in Art & TV. Production. Took art all 4 years, and TV
production was a blast, because it also involved film. As you can
see, I am a sucker for movies. Around the age of 7 I started sneaking
out my dad's keyboard and messing around with it, and that was how
I learned to play music on the keyboard. It started with video game
music, and then that turned into movie music, and so on. Later on,
it would be the Prodigy who would inspire me to go out, get some
decent music gear, and start making some serious music. Back to
the art, well I pretty much kept that up and eventually I was thinking
of becoming a comic book artist. Then I wanted to be an animator.
Then I wanted to paint. And then I started getting into everything
and anything I could get my hands on to express myself, and here
we are.
I make music
of all types, from techno, to video game sounding, to cinematic
and even orchestrated type stuff on my gear. I have attempted to
learn guitar now and then, just haven't been consistent, but got
some decent results. I do artwork, and as I tell people, I am a
jack of all trades. I do traditional art, paintings, illustration,
pencils, markers, inks, etc., and I also do digital art, that would
include painting, 3d images, photomanipulation, and usually I tend
to mash everything up together for one image, including any digital
photos I might take.
As for writing,
I pretty much have always made lil epics and movies in my head,
so from that I started writing poetry and stories. However my writing
came to an abrupt stop, as I once told myself I wouldn't write anymore
and hadn't for a long time(sob story basically). But of course,
now I am writing again. I'm really coming to with everything I do
in my life, and where I am at. I currently live around the Twin
Cities with my beloved, where we create art and live with our crazy
parrot Cheech and our voracious fish, Vega.
I
hope that's a start. Really, just take a tour through the site,
you'll figure it all out soon enough.

Thanks
for reading if you made it this far, and if you have any questions
at all...
